Empowering Southeast Colorado Springs

As disproportionately impacted communities, residents of zip codes 80910 and 80916 in Southeast Colorado Springs face systemic and socioeconomic challenges symptomatic of decades-long divestment. As a result, residents of the area have an average median income as much as a third lower compared to the city as a whole. In addition to economic challenges, shelved initiatives that failed to reach completion or projects implemented with little to no community input made Southeast Colorado Springs residents wary of outsiders and skeptical of community development. At RISE, we believe in the power of local voices and are committed to fostering genuine partnerships that prioritize the needs and aspirations of our community.

We are all about putting resident voice at the center of every effort to create positive change in Southeast Colorado Springs - building networks, convening coalition partners, bringing community members together, activating and uplifting our wonderful spaces, highlighting stories of our strengths and putting the spotlight on where change is needed. We’ve already spearheaded the reinvention of an award-winning neighborhood park, distributed vital resources in times of crisis, and built the start of a grassroots movement. Becoming our own organization is just the next step to keep the momentum going.

At the heart of our work is a dream to come together to create synergistic outcomes. Colorado Springs is fortunate to have many passionate changemakers, and RISE Southeast brings together committed partners in coalition to ensure strategic coverage of outcomes and to share information through broad channels.

â—Ź Pursuing legislation to create accountability for property owners in supporting their leasing businesses.

 

â—Ź Cultivate opportunities for skill building and access to living wage jobs.


â—Ź Identify necessary businesses such as food markets, incentivize new business development, and/or address barriers to entry for local business development.

Health and Wellness

â—Ź Revitalizing parks and trails to create opportunities for physical movement and social connection.

 

â—Ź Destigmatizing mental health considerations, promoting available resources, and advocating for additional support where needed.


â—Ź Bring missing medical care services to Southeast.

Strong Neighborhoods

â—Ź Filling in missing sidewalks to improve walkability and safety.


â—Ź Pursue crime prevention through environmental design objectives such as increased lighting.
